Discovering a New Creative Avenue
My fascination with neon signs isn’t something new. With years of experience in design and print, I’ve always been on the lookout for creative avenues to explore. Working in the industry for a long while, the question of ‘what next?’ often lingered in my mind. Neon, with its vivid and captivating allure, seemed like a natural next step in my creative journey.
The Birth of Neon Market
The idea for Neon Market came about almost serendipitously. A friend of mine was also contemplating starting a business, this time in the world of vinyl records. It was during a weekend stint at a local market, surrounded by music and the idea of neon, that we noticed how complementary these elements were. When a local shop space became available, we saw our opportunity. The landlord, whom we knew, generously agreed to let us use the space on Saturdays from June. The concept was a hit, and by October, we were open five days a week. Mark, my mate, even left his job to dedicate himself to our burgeoning venture.
Expanding Our Creative Horizon
It wasn’t long before Fiona joined us, adding a fantastic array of art pieces to our collection. Now, Neon Market was no longer just about neon signs and vinyl records – we had become a hub of diverse artistic expressions, all under one roof in a lively town setting.
Committing to Our Dream
In November, we decided to take a significant step – committing to the shop full-time from 2024. This decision marked a new chapter in our journey, solidifying our presence in the world of creative retail.
Curating a Unique Collection
Working closely with suppliers has been an enriching experience. I’ve handpicked a range of signs that not only offer great value but also bring that ‘wow’ factor every time. The glass neon signs, in particular, have my heart. As we move forward, I plan to introduce new products and bespoke pieces, catering to the growing demand for custom neon signs from individuals and businesses alike.
